Every now and then you find yourself doing something a little bit different and having the kind of night that makes you think, ‘why don’t I do this more often?’

A visit to The Latchmere in Battersea followed by watching one of the groundbreaking plays at Theatre 503 upstairs, is one of those evenings.

The pub is handsome and richly decorated, brimming with art and beautiful eccentricities. The welcome is warm and service is swift, exactly what you want when you know you’ve got a show to watch.

The food, just like everything else, focuses on the homegrown and handcrafted. Look out for the Scotch eggs, it’s our thing. At the moment there is a chorizo encased egg with smoked aioli, which is practically perfect in everyway. Our aged in-house steaks reign supreme and the sweet potato fries are to die for. Puds are proper. Salted caramel sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream will leave you feeling triumphant.  There’s even a stylish, heated garden if you’re a fan of eating al fresco.

Our wine selection promises something for whatever kind of day you’ve had and boy, are they right. There’s a sturdy selection of lagers and craft ales including Sambrook’s Wandle and The London Beer Factory’s Chelsea Blonde. Their cocktails can easily take your night up another level which can make it hard to leave and head upstairs to see the show. Fear not, the interval is never far away and the pub is open until midnight on a Friday and Saturday, so you can always make a proper night out of it.

Watching a play at Theatre503 promises to top any evening off before you head back downstairs for one final nightcap. You might even impress yourself by finally having something more important to talk about than Love Island.

A pre-theatre menu is offered Monday – Saturday, from 6pm-7pm, for just £10 for one course, £15 for two and £18 for three courses. Better still, you’d be a fool to forget diners at The Latchmere get 20% off theatre tickets. All you need to do is book in advance and mention the discount. Result!
