Special Relationship Productions and Theatre503 present
Your heart pounds. Your palms sweat. You’ve done nothing wrong, but you still feel guilty. Like a criminal. We’ve all felt it, as we approach Border Control, even if we’re … “legal”? Haven’t we? Or is it just me? And people who look like me?
In this post-Brexit age of ‘No Small Boats’ and heightened xenophobia, entering the country triggers one man’s reflections on his journey to a new country and the privileges that he was able utilize along the way. Yet these privileges only exist because of his parents’ much more difficult immigration journey, and our hero contemplates why anyone leaves one home to create another, and what it takes to survive and thrive in a new world.
Special Relationship Productions was founded in 2012 by Lucy Fenton and Kevin Shen in order to give greater exposure to under-represented groups in theatre. They produced the UK Premiere of David Henry Hwang’s Pulitzer Prize finalist play Yellow Face, opening the studio space of Park Theatre and subsequently transferring to the National Theatre. They also produced the UK Premiere of There or Here by Los Angeles-based playwright Jennifer Maisel.
