Shadow Road presents

Unbroken Festival: The Showcase

Book Now

UNBROKEN 2017 is a mixed arts, mental health awareness festival which will present a series of artistic responses to World Mental Health Day in October 2017. The festival’s main aim is to increase awareness of the issues surrounding mental illness, to reduce any attendant stigma by opening up the conversation, and to confound expectations as to what a production about ‘mental health’ might involve!

UNBROKEN made its debut as a sold-out ‘mini-festival’ at Theatre503 on World Mental Health Day last October. This year it returns with the inaugural UNBROKEN Short Film Prize at The Frontline Club, a literary event with Charlie Sheppard, Publishing Director at Andersen Press, and Under My Skin, a powerful play about adolescent mental health by award-winning playwright Ali Taylor.

This year’s showcase line-up is;

‘A Letter to My Teenage Self’, a monlogue by Iona McTaggart

‘Restless’, a short play by Lois Zoppi, performed by Mind Out Theatre

‘When’, a musical composition by Josh Gordon (UNBROKEN Festival Musician)

‘Lollipops’, an extract from ‘Ballast’, devised and performed by Jill Bradley

‘ME/She: Part I’, a dance piece devised and choreographed for the festival by Ughetta Pratesi

‘Sophie’s Story’, an extract by Marcia Kelson

‘While a Car Passes’ by Josh Gordon

‘Tattle Bank’, a one-woman play by Richard Fitchett

‘ME/She: Part II’

‘Just Leaving’ by Roz Blessed

The Showcase will be followed by a panel discussion.

Chair, Lisa Spirling (Artistic Director of Theatre503) will be joined by playwright Ali Taylor and writer and researcher Charlie Langham.
