The year is 2021, and the world still doesn’t know what to do with those of us who have decided not to reproduce. A 28-year-old actress has made a discovery, and decides to process it the best way she knows how – by getting into character to tell a story of what could have been.
An exploration of form as well as theme, twenty-eight uses the live process of creating a play to dissect decisions and ideas about womanhood, relationships, and the pressures women face about wanting to be, or not wanting to be, a Mother.
twenty-eight, a new play about loss, Mothers and Motherhood written and performed by Alexandra Donnachie (3 Years, 1 Week and a Lemon Drizzle; When We Died – Bruntwood Prize Longlist), directed by Jessica Lazar (Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award Winner with Atticist Theatre; Clean Break Award Nominee).
The running time for this show is approximately 70 minutes, with no interval.

Alexandra Donnachie
Alexandra Donnachie (Writer & Performer) is a South London born actress, writer and theatre maker. Previous venues include Oldham Coliseum, Royal & Derngate, and Hampstead Theatre.
Writing credits include: twenty-eight (Actors Centre, Rehearsed Reading); 3 Years, 1 Week and a Lemon Drizzle (Edinburgh Fringe 2018); When We Died (Carbon Theatre, Vaults Festival 2020; Bruntwood Prize longlisted); and Dark Shadows: Thirteen (Big Finish Productions).
Acting credits include: 3 Years, 1 Week and a Lemon Drizzle; Atomic 50 (Blackhorse Workshop); Return to Elm House (Battersea Arts Centre); The Suffragettes with Lucy Worsley (BBC One/Book Lapping Productions; BAFTA Winner 2019). Alexandra also currently plays a series regular Jackie Tate in the Dark Shadows audio drama series and she has appeared in numerous audio drama for Big Finish and Audible. Alexandra is currently developing the screen adaptation of When We Died.
