Theatre503 Writers’ Programme Course: Redrafting with Safaa Benson-Effiom

So you’ve written a full-length play – amazing, well done! Now the real work begins… From the crucial questions to how to approach and implement notes, this is an overview of the drafting process to help take your play from good to great.

This session is part of our In-Person Writers’ Programme Weekend across Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June at what will be the 503Studio at Nine Elms!

The 503Studio will be opening fully in late Spring 2025. Currently, the space is still a work-in-progress and the building is still a ‘shell’, it is carpeted with full power and is wheelchair accessible. You can find out more the 503Studio at Nine Elms here.

Running time of workshop: 2 hours – delivered in-person at the 503Studio at Nine Elms. Maximum class sizes are 16. A portion of spaces have been reserved for Share the Drama places.

Safaa Benson-Effiom

Safaa Benson-Effiom is an award-winning playwright and theatre maker from London.

A finalist for the 2020 Theatre503 International Playwriting Award and the 2019 Tony Craze Award, her debut play TIL DEATH DO US PART premiered at Theatre503 in May 2022 to four and five-star reviews, subsequently winning ‘Best Production – Premiere’ at the London Pub Theatre Awards. It also led to her being nominated for a Black British Theatre Award and the Offie for ‘Most Promising New Playwright’.

Her second play FOR THE CULTURE was longlisted for the 2021 Theatre Uncut Political Playwriting Award, the 2021 Women’s Prize for Playwriting and the 2022 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting.

She has previously been part of the Soho Theatre Writers’ Lab, Tamasha Playwrights’, BBC Writersroom - London Voices, and is currently developing a new play for Soho Theatre.
