Kufiya Comedy presents...
What happens when you meet someone who feels like home? Majenin follows a Palestinian comedian and a Palestinian artist who meet in New York and fall into an intense, whirlwind romance that carries them across borders and into a life together in London. What begins with tea, late-night food, music and the intoxicating promise of a shared future quickly becomes something more complicated. As their relationship begins to unravel, love, longing and heartbreak become entangled with questions of home, identity, culture and the impossible weight of a homeland that neither of them can escape.
Majenin, meaning “crazy people” in Arabic, is a darkly funny and deeply human love story about two Palestinians living in the diaspora and the madness of falling in love when neither person is entirely free from the past. Moving between stand-up comedy and intimate theatre, the play explores what it means to build a life between cultures, to love while carrying inherited trauma, and to long for home when home itself has become complicated. At its heart is a question: what does it mean to have the right to love, not just the right to survive?

Marena Riyad
Marena Riyad is an award winning Palestinian-American whose humor moves between heartbreak and seduction. Born in a refugee camp in the West Bank and “kidnapped” to America at ten, she turns displacement, desire, and the absurdity of belonging into dark, magnetic comedy. The self-proclaimed Femme Fatale of the Middle East, Marena refuses to reduce Palestinian stories to trauma, instead bringing a sharp, refreshingly pessimistic take on love, identity, and the complicated business of finding home.
Her work moves between stand-up, theatre and acting, blending vulnerability, humor and defiance. From the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to clubs and theaters across the world, she makes women laugh and men pine — often at the same time."
