Theatre503’s Executive Director is no stranger to a funding application! In this one day intensive, Emily will take you through the triumphs and pitfalls of a funding application and how to make the most of your word limit.
You will learn how to build the best funding narrative to support your show’s USP, coming away with the skills to identify suitable funding opportunities from individuals to crowd funding and trusts and foundations. Participants will work through an ACE project grant, learning to interpret guidance and priorities across funders. This in-person intensive will give you the building blocks and confidence to start you on your funding journey through to making larger asks over time.
Saturday 10 October 2026, 10am – 6pm at The 503Studio in Nine Elms (including a one hour break for lunch).
This masterclass will take place in-person at Theatre503’s Studio.

Emily Carewe
Emily is currently Executive Director and Co-Chief Executive at Theatre503 as well as the Founder and Director of the biennial LAMDA MishMash Festival - a new work commissioning festival, and the only grassroots festival in the UK committed to paying every participant a minimum of London Living Wage. In these two roles fundraising plays a key part of her day to day, and Emily has a wide range of experience raising production, project and organisational funds across grants, individuals, sponsorship, Arts Council and more.
Prior to her current roles, she was Executive Director at Fio, where she collaborated with the Artistic Director to successfully secure multi-year funding from Arts Council of Wales. She was Creative Executive Producer at 45North from 2019-2022 where she led the delivery of commissioning, development and producing work - producing work across London the UK that prioritised platforming underrepresented stories. Producing and Co-Producing credits included Gig for Ghosts (Soho Theatre), MEAT (Theatre503), You Bury Me (Edinburgh Lyceum), Reasons You Should(n’t) Love Me (Kiln), Hungry (Soho Theatre/Roundabout) and two seasons of ‘Written on the Waves’ - original audio drama that broke boundaries of form, featuring writers including Tabby Lamb, Ava Wong Davies, Dessa, Abi Zakarian and more. 45North was principal partner of the inaugural Women’s Prize for Playwriting in 2020.
Emily has also produced for organisations including Clean Break (Typical Girls by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm) and LAMDA, and began her career working in the Special Projects Department at the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and producing concerts and cabarets.
