In this one day-intensive Theatre503’s Artistic Director and Co-CEO will take you through his process when working with new Writing. Using Donbas, the first show he directed and dramaturged as part of his inaugural season as Theatre503’s Artistic director, you will learn how to analyse text and use your dramaturgical skills, work collaboratively with writers and actors, come up with a concept, how to solve creative roadblocks collaboratively, and practically work through sections of text to sharpen your skills. The day will culminate with a Q&A on the job of an Artistic Director and the journey to becoming one.
Saturday 3 October 2026, 10am – 6pm at The 503Studio in Nine Elms (including a one hour break for lunch).
This masterclass will take place in-person at Theatre503’s Studio.

Anthony Simpson-Pike
Anthony is a director, dramaturg and writer. He is currently Artistic Director of Theatre503, and was Deputy Artistic Director at the Yard Theatre, Resident Director at Theatre Peckham and Associate Director at the Gate Theatre. Recent directorial work includes Donbas at Theatre503, Samuel Takes a Break... at The Yard Theatre, Drama Desk award winning Grenfell: In the Words of Survivors at the National Theatre/ St Ann’s Warehouse in New York, Irish Times Theatre award nominated An Octoroon, and, at the Bush, Olivier Award winning The P Word and Lava (nominated for Best Director at the Black British Theatre Awards).
As a dramaturg Anthony has developed multiple seasons of work for the Gate and the Yard. Recent dramaturgical credits include Now, I See at Stratford East, Much Ado About Nothing for the RSC; Samskara at the Yard Theatre; Hotline with Produced Moon at the Tron; Dear Young Monster by Pete McHale for The Queer House; and Coup de Grace at the Royal Court.
