Theatre503’s flagship course for playwrights who wish to have a refresher from an industry leading contemporary. Intended for playwrights who have a grip on the basics and want to further hone their skills.

Whether you’re suffering from writer’s block, are half way through a draft, or are looking for your next idea. Over the course you will explore how to push and develop ideas, giving you the accountability and confidence to take those next steps while adding to your playwriting toolkit. The course will consist of a mix of writing exercises, discussion and exploration of texts.

Satinder Chohan
Satinder is a writer from Southall, West London, whose hometown of Southall continues to inspire her storytelling, as her writing explores and excavates hidden glocal South Asian worlds and characters. Her first play ZAMEEN (Kali Theatre) centres around a struggling Punjabi cotton-farming family in rapidly globalising India. Subsequent plays include KABADDI KABADDI KABADDI (Kali Theatre/Pursued By A Bear) about sport, nationality and belonging; MADE IN INDIA (Tamasha/Belgrade/Pilot Theatres) about a Gujarati commercial surrogacy; young people’s play HALF OF ME (Tamasha) created while writer in residence at the Centre for Family Research, University of Cambridge; LOTUS BEAUTY (Hampstead Theatre) about conflicting multigenerational women in a British Asian beauty salon and MIA AND THE FISH (National Theatre Connections 2025) about a refugee girl, her fishy friend and an apocalyptic flood. She is currently on a National Theatre Studio attachment, working on her play EMPIRE OF THE MIND and adaptations of Irfan Master’s A BEAUTIFUL LIE and Henrik Ibsen’s AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE.
Her audio dramas include an adaptation of Kiran Millwood Hargrave’s THE GIRL OF INK AND STARS (Spark Arts); STEAM RISES (Tamasha/National Archives); GARLANDS (BBC Radio 3); an adaptation of Pam Gems’ CAMILLE (BBC Radio 3); SOUTHALL UPRISING (BBC Radio 4) about the charged community protests of April 1979 and SCAMMER (BBC Radio 4) about the relationship between an elderly Asian woman in the UK and a Delhi phone scammer.
