Five day course from Monday 5 August – Friday 9 August. Each session will be 2.5 hours from 10.30am-1pm in the theatre.

Vivienne Franzmann will lead this course to act as an introduction to the core aspects and approaches to playwriting. We will look at finding inspiration for plays, creating and developing characters, monologues, dramatic action, and dialogue and subtext, explored through practical exercises and sharing in a friendly and supportive environment.

We have a limited amount of bursary places available via our Share the Drama scheme, thanks to the support of Dynamis for long term unemployed/those claiming income support/jobseekers allowance.Please contact us if you are eligible for a bursary and would like to take part in the course. 

Vivienne Franzmann

In 2008, Vivienne won a Bruntwood Playwriting Award for her first play Mogadishu and was awarded the George Devine Award for Most Promising Playwright in 2010. Her next play, The Witness premiered at the Royal Court, London in 2012. In 2014, Vivienne’s play Pests, written for the theatre company Clean Break, was performed at the Royal Exchange and the Royal Court. In 2016, The Snow Queen was performed at the Bristol Old Vic. In 2017, Bodiespremiered at the Royal Court, London. She has written for Channel 4, BBC 1, Radio 4 and Radio 3. In 2014, Vivienne was awarded a BAFTA for her short film for children, Lizard Girl. Vivienne has taught playwriting nationally and internationally.
