Suhayla El-Bushra is a screenwriter and playwright. She was writer in residence at the National Theatre where her adaptation of Nikolai Erdman’s The Suicide was staged in the Lyttelton Theatre. Other plays include The Long Song at Chichester Festival Theatre, NW Trilogy at the Kiln, Arabian Nights at The Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh, Cuckoo at The Unicorn Theatre and Pigeons at The Royal Court. She has written for continuing TV drama series Hollyoaks, Becoming Elizabeth and Ackley Bridge. Films include the BFI funded feature BRIDES, and BUSH, a short film for Film 4.
