503Studio Masterclass: Politics of Text

Plays are stories, not political manifestos, as we are often told. However, storytelling is one of the most political things we do in our daily lives, and even politicians are judged by their ability to spin a narrative. In this masterclass, Amy Bethan Evans will demonstrate how two plays telling the same story could be wildly different, depending on factors such as: the stance of their creators, whose voice is amplified, which events are shown, how the form relates to the content and who the roles are designed to be played by. By the end, you’ll discover the ways to make your text political without heavily involving politics.
