Right To Write is a unique opportunity for adults of any age who live or work in Nine Elms to take part in a weekly introductory online playwriting course run by Theatre503’s Literary Manager, Steve Harper. Over a series of Wednesday evenings, participants will explore finding starting points/ inspiration; creating characters; writing monologues; dialogue and subtext; and dramatic action. It will take the form of practical writing exercises, tutorials and script reading, culminating in hearing work read aloud by a group of professional actors – we are hoping for the reading to take place in person, if guidelines allow and everyone taking part is able to join us.
Course participants will then be invited to continue their creative journey with us, with a bespoke package of support for the rest of the year including tickets to Theatre503 productions, invitations to Writers’ Nights and further courses and masterclasses through the 503Studio: Writers Programme.
Thanks to Wandsworth Council, this course and the year’s creative support is offered for free to residents and workers in Nine Elms, Wandsworth.
We are inviting you to either nominate yourself, or someone you know who has that creative spark but never had the opportunity or confidence to start – whether they are a family member, student, part of your community or social group or someone you work with.
“There are loads of courses for writers out there once you’ve got some experience, but there’s nothing for writers who don’t even know they’re writers yet. I wish there had been something like this when I was starting out”
– Ross Willis (503Five alumnus and award winning writer of Wolfie)
